Temple of Laughter
The Proposal
First Prize -“The Temple of Laughter”
Competition
The fundamental concept of this building is “laughter makes you laugh”. The Temple of Laughter is a simple box within which visitors can experience a range of different types of laughter through an interactive wall. They can also deposit their own laughter to add to the existing database of laughs.
This proposition is derived from the distinction between a joke and laughter. Architectural language, like a joke, is culturally located. Architectural form and meaning equate with a jokes as a set of symbols, timing and references that are bound to traditions and invariably work within groups.
