The Cool Tower
The Irish Hall Cool Tower reconfigures the outdoor space within an ASU student campus dormitory. The project enhances the thermal comfort through a vegetation clad cool tower placed at the center of the courtyard. Irish Hall dormitory was built in 1940 under Roosevelt’s New Deal by the Works Progress Administration and provides an ideal enclosed space for evaporative cooling. The interior courtyard of is intended as place of gathering for the student residents and will include seating and vegetation in the ground plane.
